Fishing Report

Cook's Bay , a short drive north of Toronto, offers some of the best fishing in the province. The Bay is the south part of Lake Simcoe and it is shallow and weedy. The lake has endless fishing opportunities; the shallows are rich in weed growth, where bullrushes, eel grass, and cabbage weeds flourish. Cook's Bay is famous for it's jumbo Perch. Anglers target the perch heavily during the icefishing season, which begins in mid-Janurary through until mid-march. Hundreds of anglers using various ice fishing techniques visit the lake during the winter months. Live minnows and wax-worms fished near the bottom are highly effective.
2008 season has officially ended!
Thank you everyone for fishing with us this year! Unfortunately for us, we had a very short season this year, of only 8 weeks of fishing. Luckily, we knew the perfect spot to get everyone on the fish, and we hope everyone had a wonderful experience with Orange Mobile Huts!

We had a GREAT opening to our season today, we had to work a bit hard to catch the fish, but when we caught we caught! Our renters caught approximately 250 fish today! Well done! We are catching some fair sized Perch, see the new pictures for an idea of some you'll be likely to catch when YOU come out with Orange Mobile Huts, a FANTASTIC time was had by all!
We are currently catching Perch between 9 and 10 inches long. Occasionally we see a whitefish in the mix, but when you're fishing on Cook's Bay, you're going to mainly see the Perch

Today was an incredible day on Cook's Bay. There were hundreds of people fishing. A few people I talked to on the street did not do so well in catching fish. However, our renters Bob and Rita from Toledo, Ohio, caught their limit for 2 days (200!!!) and were throwing them back. Our guess is that the fish are hungry since the lake just froze less than 2 weeks ago.

We have had two successful weekends since the last update. The perch that are coming in are on the smaller side, however our prediction is that they will start gaining in size as the season continues. Our Saturday fisherman this past weekend had a gigantic fish fry with all the fish they caught, and they made their secret "Honkey Sauce" for dipping. Mmm, nothing like breaded and deep-fried perch. It was a great time had by all. Anyone searching for the recipe may have to wait, I hear it's a secret! Thanks to Bob and the gang from Ohio, and Ryan, Brent, Matt and Chris from Scarborough for making the fish fry a great night!
